New Federal Political Party Launches from Peterborough: The Road to 250 Begins
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | July 14th, 2025
Peterborough, ON — A new federal political party is being built from the ground up, and it’s starting in Peterborough. The Modern Commons Party, a centrist, grassroots political movement, has officially launched its registration campaign with Elections Canada.
The campaign, titled The Road to 250, seeks to gather the required 250 signed declarations of membership needed to register as a federal party. No donation is required, just Canadian citizenship and a belief that it’s time for a better political balance.
“We’re starting here in Peterborough because this riding reflects so many of the challenges and contradictions facing the country,” said Interim Leader Jack Henry. “It’s a place where rural and urban Canada meet, and where people are tired of having to choose between extremes.”
The Modern Commons Party describes itself as a home for Canadians who want practical, common-sense solutions that move past ideological gridlock.
“We’re not a protest party, we’re a proposal,” said Interim President Thamer Linklater. “We believe in strong communities, balanced policy, and a politics that works for more people.”
Peterborough residents will see Road to 250 events, canvassing, and tabling around the region through the summer and fall, and Canadians across the country are invited to join online.
