The Modern Commons Party of Canada would like to respectfully acknowledge that the land on which our movement was founded—in Nogojiwanong (Peterborough)—is the traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabeg, covered by the Williams Treaties. We honour their enduring connection to this land, as well as the stewardship and presence of the many Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Métis peoples who continue to live here today.
As we grow into a national party, we also recognize that we are all living and working on the ancestral and unceded lands of diverse Indigenous Nations across Turtle Island. This acknowledgment is not a formality—it is a call to action.
The Modern Commons Party is committed to walking a path of truth, reconciliation, and justice. We recognize that colonial systems still shape Canadian governance and society, and we are dedicated to changing that.
As a party and as future Members of Parliament, we pledge to:
Work in partnership with Indigenous communities, not simply consult them, on policies that affect their lands, rights, and futures.
Support the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and the Calls for Justice of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
Advocate for fair land and resource agreements, respect for Indigenous legal traditions, and adequate funding for Indigenous-led housing, health care, education, and cultural revitalization.
Push for greater representation of Indigenous voices in Parliament and support Indigenous sovereignty, self-determination, and Nation-to-Nation relationships.
Support the teaching of Indigenous histories, languages, and perspectives in all Canadian schools as part of decolonizing our national narrative.
We understand that decolonization is not symbolic—it is ongoing work that demands humility, listening, and action.
We are grateful to the First Peoples of this land, and we are committed to working together to build a future grounded in respect, responsibility, and shared leadership.
