Modern Commons Party Statement: Strong Support for Key Federal Initiatives Planned for Budget
The Modern Commons Party of Canada applauds today’s announcements by Prime Minister Mark Carney on initiatives designed to make life more affordable and accessible for Canadians. These programs; the automatic tax filing system, renewal of the Canada Strong Pass for the holidays and 2026 and the permanent funding of the National School Food Program; reflect practical, inclusive policy that aligns closely with the values of the Modern Commons Party.
Automatic Tax Filing System
The new system, which will automatically prepare tax returns for millions of Canadians with straightforward tax situations, represents an important step toward reducing bureaucratic barriers and ensuring Canadians receive the benefits they are entitled to.
“Simplifying tax filing is about fairness and accessibility. No one should miss out on benefits simply because the system is confusing,” said Jack Henry, Leader of the Modern Commons Party.
While the Modern Commons Party supports moving towards return-free filing, we strongly support this initiative because it ensures equity for all Canadians, particularly those with lower incomes, reduces administrative burden, and makes government services more efficient and citizen-focused.
Canada Strong Pass Renewal
The renewal of the Canada Strong Pass encourages Canadians to explore national parks, museums, and historic sites while making domestic travel more affordable and accessible.
“Programs like the Canada Strong Pass allow Canadians to experience the richness of our country without financial barriers. This strengthens communities, tourism, and national pride,” said Jack.
The party supports the pass because it promotes domestic tourism, fosters engagement with Canadian culture, and ensures equitable access to recreational and educational experiences for Canadians of all ages and income levels.
National School Food Program
Permanent funding for the National School Food Program ensures that up to 400,000 children receive nutritious meals at school, addressing food insecurity and supporting healthy learning environments.
“No child should go hungry at school. By making this program permanent, we are investing in the well-being and future success of our children,” Jack said.
The Modern Commons Party supports this program because it directly improves child health and learning outcomes, reduces inequality, and represents a socially responsible investment in Canada’s future. The program’s partnerships with provinces, territories, and Indigenous communities further demonstrate effective, inclusive governance.
The Modern Commons Party encourages all levels of government to continue pursuing policies that combine fiscal responsibility with social impact, ensuring that programs are inclusive, efficient, and equitable for all Canadians. To that end, we are excited to get further details when the budget is released November 4th!
