Remembrance Day Statement from the Modern Commons Party of Canada.
Today, we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering service of all the men and women who have defended Canada in times of war, conflict, and peacekeeping.
We remember Indigenous Peoples who stood shoulder to shoulder with their fellow Canadians often without recognition or equal rights at home. In the case of the world wars, having to give up their status rights to serve. While we continue with reconciliation, their bravery and resilience form an essential part of our shared history.
We also remember the service animals brought to the front lines without understanding the human conflict, horses, dogs, cats, pigeons, and others who saved countless lives as infantry, bomb detection, messengers and even mousers and gas detectors. Each played a role in the fight for freedom and in the long journey toward peace.
Remembrance Day is not only about looking back—it is about carrying forward the lessons of the past. We remember those who gave everything so that we might live in peace, and we commit ourselves to building a country that continues to uphold the ideals they fought for: compassion, unity, and respect for all.
“On this day, we remember that the freedoms we enjoy were hard won and that honouring our veterans means more than wearing a poppy; to me it means honouring one of my namesakes, honouring my maternal grandfather and this year honouring my indigenous partners grandfather. Most importantly it means working every day toward a Canada that is worthy of their sacrifice, a Canada that works for everyone!” — Jack Henry, Leader of the Modern Commons Party of Canada
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.
Lest we forget.
