Thamer Linklater
Thamer Linklater is a Rocky Cree/Nehiyaw artist, poet, and advocate from Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation in Northern Manitoba. A survivor of the child welfare system, Thamer brings a deeply personal understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized communities. Moving to Peterborough to attend Trent University, they now reside in Peterborough/Nogojiwanong and are dedicated to fostering community resilience and systemic change through both creative expression and practical action.
As a graduate of Trent University's Master's program in Sustainability, Thamer has engaged in research focusing on the intersections of housing, homelessness, and Indigenous rights. Their work with the Research for Social Change Lab includes innovative projects that use poetry and storytelling to amplify the voices of those often unheard in policy discussions.
Beyond academia, Thamer is the founder of Linklater Administration, a local business that supports small enterprises and non-profits in navigating administrative challenges. This initiative reflects their commitment to empowering community organizations and fostering economic development at the grassroots level.
Thamer's candidacy with the Modern Commons Party is driven by a vision of inclusive governance that prioritizes housing as a human right, equitable access to healthcare, and meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. Their lived experience, combined with academic insight and community engagement, positions them as a compelling advocate for transformative policies that address both local and national issues.
